Lots of beginning copywriters think that it's all about the written word and nothing else matters. Let me tell you something, the quality of your writing is only part of the battle when it comes to writing a sales letter that actually converts. Trust me, there are plenty of great writers out there. You may very well be one of them. But what separates the great writers from the successful writers is what the successful ones do that have very little to do with their writing. This article is going to share some things that every successful copywriter does to improve his conversions. For starters, and this is where most people fall way short, they test everything. I'm not talking about just one or two things. I mean EVERYTHING. For example, they'll write a sales letter and then make an exact copy of it except for one thing, the headline. They'll test one against the other and see which converts better. But they won't stop there. They'll also test multiple prices points, closings, formats and so on. They'll make every effort to get their sales letter to convert better without really changing the content of the letter itself, at least not much. Testing is the critical key to improving conversions. But it doesn't end with just testing. A successful copywriter will also keep up with the latest trends. For example, just recently, it was discovered that a certain kind of introduction works better than others. If you're not reading the latest copywriting news, you wouldn't know about these things. In addition to this, a successful copywriter will read the copy of other successful copywriters to see what they're doing. If somebody is using something that works, why not use it yourself? You don't have to reinvent the wheel. Just apply the principles to your own niche. Neither of these things has much to do with the quality of your writing. It's simply a matter of keeping your eyes open for what's going on and testing your own copy to make sure you're getting the most out of it. There are plenty of tools out there that can help you do this plus a lot more. In my signature is a review of a great resource for keeping up with what's going on and improving your own copy. Like I said...come prepared or be prepared to fail. I remember when blogs first came out. I honestly thought that they were going to be a fad. Boy was I dead wrong. Blogs are probably one of the best means for marketing on the Internet today. The problem is, a lot of people don't really know how to get the most out of their blogs and other marketers' blogs. Well, this article is going to give you bloggers some tips that you may find useful. Hopefully, if you implement some of these strategies, you'll be on your way to making even more money online than you are now. The first tip has to do with making the most out of your own blog. A lot of marketers will simply create a blog, put up a few articles, maybe a link to an affiliate product or two and that's it. They've done their minimum. Well, it's going to take more than the minimum to make your blog pull in the big bucks. So, the first thing you should do, and this is the easiest thing to do, is put up an opt in box so you can collect email addresses. Offer them a free report or newsletter that relates to the topic of your blog. Trust me, you'll get plenty of subscribers if you offer them something of value. The next tip has to do with making the most out of other marketers' blogs. That's right, blogs that are not your own. How can you do this? Very simple. Many marketers have blogs that allow comments. Simply go to one of these blogs, post a comment that actually has some meaning and include a link in your signature back to your own blog. The important thing is to make sure your comment to whatever the topic is, is very good. I'm not talking about one or two sentences. I'm talking about a couple of paragraphs. Trust me, you'll get a nice following this way if people think you have something important to say. Finally, there is the promotion of your blog. So many marketers are lazy about this. They simply make their blog post and then ping the blog directories. This isn't enough. Try writing some articles, submitting them to article directories and including a link to your blog in the resource box. You'll be surprised how many extra visitors doing this will bring in. Just one article a day is all you need to greatly increase your readership. Blogs are great tools for marketing if they're used correctly. Hopefully, these tips will get you going in the right direction. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim Tired of being an affiliate failure? Want to turn yourself into an affiliate assassin like I am? Everybody has their home business tips. I've read more of them than Carter has liver pills. And yet, very few people warn you about the things you shouldn't do. Sadly, I discovered that you can do 100 things right but if you do just one thing wrong, you can undo all the good that you did. Well, in this article, I'm going to share with your three things that you need to avoid like the plague when it comes to running your home business. If you simply avoid these three things, you'll give yourself a pretty good chance at success with your business. At the top of my "not to do" list is getting involved in programs and opportunities that promise you the moon. You know what I'm talking about. You see these sales pages everyday. "Make $30,000 In 30 Days With Our Proven System." Let me tell you something. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can promise you any kind of income on the Internet. I don't care how great their system is. Making money online is hard work. You can go weeks or even months without making a dime. My first five months of this earned me all of $28, so I know what I'm talking about. I tried every get rich quick scheme in the book. They don't work. So avoid them. Next on the list is spam. I know you read about all these people who make millions of dollars a year spamming. Let me tell you something. It's not worth it. You can go to jail for spamming. As a matter of fact, unless you've been living under a rock, you've already seen this happen and what it can do to people's lives. The so called Spam King just took his life and the lives of his wife and kid because he didn't want to go to jail for his crimes. Yes, spamming is a crime and if you're caught, you'll go to jail. It's that simple. So as tempted as you might be, don't do it. Finally, you'll be tempted to try to get your family into your "business". Let me tell you something. This tactic has destroyed more families than I can shake a stick at. The reason is simple. Your family member trusts you and they expect you to make them a lot of money. When this doesn't happen, and in most cases it doesn't, the resentment is enough to literally tear families apart. So as tempted as you might be to try to bring your family into your business, don't do it. If you avoid these three things, you'll give yourself a much better chance of starting and running a successful home based business. That is your goal, right? Affiliate marketers are a different breed from us product creators. They're not interested in getting their names on the latest gizmo. All they want to do is sell products and make lots of money. Let the product creators deal with the hassles of creating sales pages and handling refunds and customer support. Just give me my money, right? Well, if you want to be a top affiliate marketer, you're going to have to get away from your current mindset. Don't know what I mean? This article will fill you in. At the very top of the list of things you need to get away from is what I call the "herd mentality." What do I mean? Well, tell me if this doesn't sound familiar. You get word that there's this product at the Clickbank marketplace that is selling like hotcakes. It's got a gravity of 300 plus. So you head on over, create your affiliate link and start promoting it all over creation. There you are, little old you going up against hundreds of affiliates...each one trying to get their share of sales. To make matters worse, you don't even create your own ads. No, what do you do? You head on over to the affiliate center and grad a hold of some of those canned ads that the merchant has all ready for you. Hey, don't get me wrong...they're good ads. He probably had his best copywriter make them. Problem is, these are the same ads that everybody else is using. So if you think you're going to stand out from the crowd, you're not going to do it using these canned ads. Trust me, you're wasting your time. Throw into the mix the fact that you use the same tired and worn out promotional methods that everybody else is using and there's another area where you're not standing out. Now don't get me wrong, these methods are fine and they will bring results, provided you weren't using the same tired ads, but there are methods out there that are so cutting edge, even WITH tired and worn out ads, you'd have a better chance of making a few extra sales. But no, the herd mentality kicks in and the clones start marketing. Look, do you want to actually make a difference in the world of affiliate marketing? Then get away from the herd mentality. Start thinking outside the box. A few lines down will get you started. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim Tired of being an affiliate failure? This is not so much about the hours that you put in each day but more about business model. You can put in the same number of hours into one business model as another and make twice as much money. But how is that? Is it because the market is bigger? Or is it because of something else? Well, this article is going to explain why you can put in the same effort into two different business models and make twice as much money from one of them. Even though there are really many types of business models, essentially the two main models come down to either selling a product or selling an ongoing service. To better illustrate this, let me give you an example of each. Let's take the product first. I have a business model where I sell ebooks. Now, once I sell an ebook to a prospect, that's it. I can't sell him that ebook again. Once he has it, he has it. So the only way I am going to earn more money from this person is if I have other ebooks to sell him. If not, in order to get more income, I have to get more prospects. This is a simplified model, but I think it illustrates my point. Now, let's take the ongoing service model. Let's take a company like Aweber. Aweber is a company that provides an autoresponder service. I happen to use the service myself. As a matter of fact, I signed up with Aweber about a year or so ago. Now, every month that I use their service, I have to pay a fee. So look at this model. They make one sale to me and they collect an income from me for months, maybe years. Do you see where the second model is actually less work? Once you've sold your service on the person, if they find after using it that they can't live without it, they're very likely to continue using it for a very long time. So you're doing the same amount of work but for every sale you make, you're making what is called a residual income. It's certainly something to consider when trying to decide exactly what it is you want to do with your Internet marketing career. We all get lazy when it comes to marketing. Hey, even I do. But today, I decided to push myself a little harder just because I knew it was the right thing to do. And you know what, you don't have to push yourself that much harder to make a difference. In this article, I'm going to give you some examples of how just doing a little bit more each day can make a world of difference. Let's start with article marketing. Article marketing is one of the most cost effective ways to promote your product or service online. The downside is that it takes a while and quite a few articles to build up any decent amount of traffic. So let's say you wrote two articles a day, everyday, for marketing purposes. At the end of a year, you'd have 730 articles out on the Internet. Hey, that's not too bad. But imagine if you wrote just ONE more article each day. You'd have almost 1100 articles out there at the end of a year. Just one more per day. What about product creation. Look, I know that affiliate marketing is a lot easier. You don't have the hassles of having to create your own products, squeeze pages, sales pages and so on. But the truth is, you have the potential to make a lot more money with your own products than you do by selling affiliate products for a number of reasons. Well, let's say you wanted to write a 100 page ebook and you wrote 10 pages a day. It would take you 10 days to finish the book. But what if you wrote just five more pages per day? You'd have the book finished in less than a week. Just five more pages a day. Do you create your own sales pages? Well, if you do, you know that they can be pretty long. Some sales pages are as long as 40 pages or more. It could take a solid week to write a 40 page sales page if you write about six pages a day. But what it you wrote just two more pages per day. You'd have your sales page done in five days. Instead of having to take the weekend to finish it up, you could have it out on the Internet. The bottom line to all this is simple. You get things done faster thus getting your work out to the public faster, meaning you not only make money faster but you have more time to do other things and make even more money. Yes, going the extra mile really DOES pay off. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim Tired of busting your behind for peanuts online? Too many marketers spend way too much time on the mechanics of list building without really understanding why they're building it and how to do it effectively. It is this mechanical approach that usually leads to utter disaster. Well, in this article, I'm going to share with you some of the whys and hows so you can give yourself a better chance at building a large and profitable list. Probably the most important part of the process is understanding your target market. See, people who opt into your list are doing so for one reason only...because they believe that you're going to solve a problem that they're having. If you don't do that, they have no reason to opt in. But how do we get through to these people? How do we convince them that they MUST opt into our list? The best way is to reach inside of the mind of the prospect. We need to understand why they're looking for a solution, which means we have to understand the problem. This is where we, as Internet marketers, are at a disadvantage, especially if we're just promoting an affiliate product to solve some problem that we ourselves don't have. I mean let's face it, if you're selling a book on how to treat asthma without knowing what it's like to have asthma, you can't really identify with the sufferer. So how do we identify with the sufferer? There is only one way, short of having the problem ourselves. We have to go to forums and actually look and see what these sufferers are talking about. Let me tell you something, I have been to some of these health forums and the stories there could just about break your heart. There is some real suffering in the world. Understanding that suffering and being able to relate to it is the first step in gaining the trust of your prospect. After we do that much, the rest is really easy. Simply write copy (or have a copywriter do it) that hits the hot buttons of these people. That will be the basis for your sales page. From there, you just work backwards. The opt in page will briefly explain what your free report (you do have one, right?) is going to teach them and inside the free report, you'll give them the link to your sales page. If the free report has hit all the right psychological buttons, you should have no problem making the sale. It all begins with understanding your prospect. And that, my friend, is the psychology behind building your list. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim Tired of not getting your emails delivered, read or opened? Well, it's that time again. Every once in a while I like to play the role of your conscience. I know you probably don't like hearing this stuff but somebody has to keep marketers on the straight and narrow otherwise, as bad as a reputation Internet marketing has in this world, it would only get worse if we didn't police ourselves. So in this article, I want to talk about honesty in sales pages. Let's start off with one of my pet peeves. Which one? This one is the sales page that says "Only 100 of these will be sold" or something like that. You know the ones I'm talking about. Do you make these? If you do, I hope you mean it. Just recently, a friend of mine from the Warrior Forum went to a sales page that said only 5 would be sold. So guess what? He bought all 5 and then a little while later, went back to get some more just to see if the site was on the level and wouldn't you know it...there were more available. Surprise, surprise. I would have never thought this stuff goes on. Okay, that was a joke. Of course I know this stuff goes on. You know it too. For some reason, marketers seem to think that it's okay to make claims of scarcity just to get people to buy their product without having any intention of honoring it. Well, if this continues the way it's been going on, eventually, nobody is going to believe our claims and sales are going to shrink considerably. Let's take another one...the timer. You know the one I'm talking about. You go to a site and you see that it says that you have only 12 minutes to take advantage of this opportunity and at the bottom of the sales page, you see a timer running and counting down towards zero. The funny thing is, if you go back to this sales page the next day, you'll find the same message and the same timer. Nothing has changed but the day. This is another tactic that eventually is going to kill your credibility. I think that's enough to mess with your conscience for one day. Keep it real...The Internet buying community will thank you for it. I was talking to one of my marketing friends the other day and I asked him casually, "Hey, you're an affiliate marketer. Do you know where the money is?" His answer to me was "Sure, it's with the big ticket items and the top selling products." He seemed so sure of himself. There was absolutely no doubt in his mind. Well, I don't know what your mindset is like on this subject, but you may want to read this article to find out if you REALLY know where the money is. It may not be what you think. It's easy to think that the money is simply where my friend thinks it is. After all, the big ticket items usually pay the biggest commissions and the top selling products are usually the easiest to sell, right? Well, not quite. Let's take the big ticket item problem first. Every Internet marketer, especially if they're in the "make money online" niche, has their own target market. I have my own target market and that market is too new to the Internet marketing game to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on big ticket items. I know that if I were to try to sell these items to those on my list, I wouldn't be very successful. I'd end up making more money, in the long run, if I sell low end products that actually provide real solutions to their problems. As a matter of fact, this approach brings me in a six figure a year income whereas if I were to try to sell big ticket items, I'd probably be broke. What about the top selling items? These can be big ticket or small ticket items. Certainly these have to be easy to sell. Well, yes, IF you are a top marketer. Why is that important? Think about it. The top selling items are probably going to have many affiliates promoting them. If you're going up against that many affiliates, you're going to have a harder time getting your share of the pie. That's just basic math. There are only so many people to sell to and only so many sales to be made. So the more people selling, the fewer sales per person. Point is, the money isn't always where you think it is. Sometimes it's where you'd never suspect. To YOUR Success, Steven Wagenheim Tired of being an affiliate failure? Internet marketers are a funny lot. They think they know it all. Oh come on, admit it. You have all the answers, especially when you reach a point where you are starting to see some success. Hey, I fall victim to this too at times. Then I remember that I don't know it all and have a lot still to learn. One of the best ways of learning is asking questions, for many reasons. I'm going to go over a few of them here. For starters, there is asking questions in regard to the actual knowledge you have about marketing. Look, new marketing methods are coming out all the time. What may have worked last year may not work this year. Wouldn't it be a good idea to ask, for one thing, if the old methods still work and also if there is anything new on the horizon. And make sure you get some statistical evidence either way. You just don't want to take people's word for it. Get proof. Another area to ask questions is with your customers and prospects. What do they want? Do you know? Or are you just taking guesses? The worst thing you could possibly do is create a product based on what you THINK they want and it turns out that they don't have any use for the product at all. A simple survey asking prospects and customers what they're looking for can save you a lot of grief and a lot of lost time and money. Finally, there is the area of what you've already done, such as your web page and current products. Have you ever asked people what they've thought of your stuff? If not, how do you know if there isn't something you can do to improve what it is that you already have? Go to forums and ask people to look at your site. You'll be surprised at the feedback you'll get. Bottom line is this...you can't work in a vacuum. If you don't get feedback from others, there is no way you're going to know if you're going in the right direction or in no direction at all.
