There are plenty of articles out there teaching article writers what TO do. Problem is, nobody tells you what NOT to do. More mistakes are made because of blatant stupidity than anything else. Well, the purpose of this article is to put an end to some of that stupidity. Of course it’s only going to help if people actually read it. Well, I’ve done my part in writing it. Now you have to do YOUR part. I’ll try to make this short and to the point…which would be a first for me.

Okay, rule number one. NEVER steal somebody else’s article. I know this sounds like a dumb don’t, but you’d be surprised how many people write articles that are literally lifted off of somebody else’s site. This is not cool. It’s called plagiarism and it’s going to get a lot of people really ticked off at you. If you can’t come up with your own words for a topic then do yourself and everybody else in the world a favor…don’t write. Take up basket weaving or something less dangerous.

Rule number two. NEVER write articles without some kind of structure. See how this article has a structure? I tell you I’m going to tell you what never to do and then one paragraph at a time, I give you my rules. Nice and neat and easy to follow. The last thing you want to do is write on long run-on article that has readers scratching their heads wondering what you’re talking about and where it’s going. If you think this is obvious, read some of the garbage out there. Some articles are so bad, I can’t get passed the first paragraph.

Rule number three. NEVER make your articles sales pitches. Articles are to inform, not to sell. Yeah, I know, you’ve got something that you want to hawk to the world. Well, that stuff goes in your resource box. If people like your article, they’ll check out the resource box and maybe buy your stuff. If you have something worth selling, and your article actually informed them, you might actually make a few sales.

There you go. My three rules of things NEVER to do. If you keep these in mind, you’ll find that the results from your articles will be a heck of a lot better.
