Article Writing Tips – Are There Any Real Absolutes?
Filed under: Article Writing; Tagged as: Article Writing, tips on article writing, writing an articleNo CommentsI may be putting my neck in my own noose with this one, but I’ve always believed that honesty is the best policy. As somebody who has written his own books on article writing and marketing, what follows may sound like I am dissing my own work. Well, in a way, maybe I am. Okay, confused? Good! Keep reading and hopefully, I’ll be able to clear up your confusion.
Let’s get to the question that I put forth in the title of this article. Are there any real absolutes? Well, that really depends on what it is you’re trying to accomplish with the article itself. Since I don’t know what your objectives are, I can’t really speak for you personally. So I will speak in generalities and hope that what I am about to say applies to you. It should, but it may not.
Most people write articles for one purpose…to get the attention of the person reading. The author may want the reader to just have a good laugh, cry or temper tantrum even, or the author may want the reader to follow through and ultimately purchase something at the conclusion. Whatever the motive is, you still need to get the attention of the reader. Otherwise, the article doesn’t get read. Okay, so how do we do that?
Well, the reader, beforehand, has no idea what the content of the article is going to be like. The only clue they will ultimately have is through the title of the article. That title MUST convey to the reader what it is that they’re going to read. Then, if they’re interested in what is being conveyed, they’ll read the article. It’s that simple. Now, constructing a title that will get a person to follow through and read is beyond the scope of this article. But ultimately, that is your first absolute. You MUST construct a title that gets the reader’s attention.
What next? Well, after they see the title and click through to read the article, regardless of how you do this, the article itself better deliver on the promise of the title…and it better do it quickly. See, people have very little patience these days. They are looking for instant gratification. So if they’re not told right away what it is they are expecting to be told, they’re going to leave. So however you construct the article itself, it better get to the point…quickly.
Beyond those two things, there are no absolutes. The actual content, how you close, and so on…it doesn’t matter. Because depending on what it is you’re trying to accomplish, those variables are going to change from article to article, the nuances of which are way beyond the scope of THIS article.
So in short, no, there really are no absolutes other than the ones I’ve pointed out here.
Makes article writing pretty easy…wouldn’t you say?
