Article Writing Tips – Are You Comfortable Writing?

Are you comfortable writing articles? I’m not just talking about the seat you’re sitting in, though that’s a part of it. I’m talking about other things as well. In this article, I’m going to go over some things you could and should do to get comfortable writing. I am speaking from experience. If you’re not comfortable when you’re writing, you’re not going to write well.

Let’s start with the actual physical comfort. Did you ever try doing anything in a chair that felt like you were sitting on a rock? It’s not fun and it’s no way to write. Pain is not conducive to churning out thought provoking ideas. Not only that but sit in that chair long enough and you’ll begin to have some serious back problems. Again, I am speaking from all too painful experience. So when you sit down to write, make sure it’s in a chair that you can sit in all day or at least long enough to get your thoughts on paper.

But being comfortable writing is more than just the chair you’re sitting in. Did you ever try to write about a topic that rubbed you the wrong way? I have. When I used to freelance, I’d get requests for articles on subjects that I really didn’t like…at all. Naturally, when given a job to do, I did it to the best of my ability. But let me tell you, writing about something that you have no interest in or worse…hate…is one of the toughest ways to make a living. So take my advice, if you can afford to be picky, only write on topics that you feel comfortable writing about. Otherwise, you’re going to hate what you’re doing.

Okay, I know what you’re going to ask. What if you don’t have a lot of topics that you’re comfortable writing about? What then? This is where you have to dish out a little propaganda to your brain. Do some research on the topic. Make it a game. Reward yourself with a treat when you’re done. Strive to be an absolute expert on the topic so you can show off to your friends. You’ll be surprised how impressed people are when you talk about some obscure topic. Eventually, you’ll know enough about it that you WILL feel comfortable writing about it.

When it comes to writing, it’s a head game that you have to play with yourself. Remember, you’re in charge of your brain. And if none of that stuff works, do what I’m doing now…crank up some tunes on YouTube and let them blast away while you’re writing.

    Works for me.
