Article Writing Tips – Are You For Real?
Filed under: Article Writing; Tagged as: Article Writing, tips on article writing, writing an articleNo CommentsWhen you write articles, are you for real? Now, I’m sure you’re familiar with the phrase, “Are you for real” which generally means that you’re asking the person if they’re serious about what they just said. It’s not a complimentary question by any means. However, in this instance, it isn’t quite so bad, though there are times when I wonder if some article writers really ARE for real. Anyway, keep reading and I think you’ll learn something of value that you can apply to your article writing.
For the most part, people read articles for information. They don’t read them to be entertained or to get a good laugh. They’ve got a problem that they need to have solved or they’re looking for information about something that’s going on in the world that they believe will be important to them. In either case, they need to be reassured that the information that they’re getting IS indeed for real and can be counted on to be accurate. Also, they need to believe that you’re being sincere if you offer an opinion or some advice.
The first part, accurate information, is the easy part. All you need to do is some thorough research. Yeah, I know, research is boring. Nobody wants to do it. But if you’re going to have any credibility at all as a writer, you have to get the facts. That is the bare minimum when it comes to writing articles. If you can’t do that much, quite honestly, you have no business writing at all and eventually you’re audience will see that you’re not for real and end up tuning you out.
Researching a topic these days is as easy as going to the search engines and finding a site of authority that you know you can trust. For example, if you’re writing a piece on some medical problem, going to sites like WebMD, Health Central and Wrong Diagnosis will almost guarantee that you get information that’s accurate and worth reporting on. No, don’t go to Joe Blow’s super cool health site. You might not be getting the best info from it.
Okay, the getting info part is easy. But what about the being real part? You know, writing in a way where you come off as believable. If you sound like some slick tongued used car salesman, don’t expect too many people to take your writing seriously. But if you speak to people plainly and honestly, this will shine through and you’ll earn their trust…especially when they find out that the info you gave them was accurate.
Don’t try to razzle dazzle folks with your writing. They’re not going to be impressed. They’re only going to think you’re some pompous bore.
And that’s the last thing you want to happen.
Follow these tips and you should be good as gold.
