Beginning article writers are always wondering what they should charge for their work. Well, the answer to that question involves a number of factors. This article is going to cover some of those factors. It is my hope that after reading this you have some kind of idea of what you are going to do with your own article writing business. You have a lot of decisions to make.

Let’s start off with what is probably the most important consideration of all…who you’re writing for. Each market is going to have a different pay scale. For example, if you’re good enough to write for a major magazine, you’re going to make a heck of a lot more than writing for some Internet marketer who is looking for cheap outsourced articles. These worlds are miles apart. Of course, if you’re going to write for a major magazine, you better be one darn good writer.

The next consideration is the economy. Like it or not, how bad things are will greatly affect the money that you’re going to get for your work. For example, let’s take the IM niche where marketers are looking for articles for their business. In good times, they’re going to be willing to pay more. As times get tough, they’re going to be looking to cut their expenses and thus pay less per article. Now, if the suppliers (you guys) would just stick to your guns, they’d have no choice but to pay a fair wage. But, when times get tough, writers get desperate and they accept less. It’s basic supply and demand.

Finally, there is your actual skill level. If you write really well, you’re going to get paid more. That’s all there is to it. If you don’t write so well, you’re going to have to accept less, regardless of the market. That is why it’s so important to improve your skills daily.

Article writers can get anywhere from $3 to $200 per article, or more. It all depends on what you have to offer and where you’re going with that offer.
