Article Writing Tips – How to Write Better Resource Boxes

I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve seen ruined because of a lousy resource box. What’s the good of your article if you can’t get readers to act on the information that you’ve given them? In this article, I’m going to give you some tips on how to write a better one. I hope you will find these tips helpful.

Let me start off by filling you in on what a BAD resource box is why it’s bad. The typical resource box that most authors use goes something like this. “John Smith is a well known author and marketer who has been writing on the Internet for over 10 years and…blah, blah, blah.” Okay, let me say this as simply and as clearly as I can. Nobody, and I do mean NOBODY gives a rat’s behind who you are. Trying to impress them with your credentials, experience, or whatever is NOT going to get people to your site. This is a TERRIBLE resource box and should be avoided at all costs.

Okay, so what’s going to get the reader to your site? The only thing your reader cares about is what YOU can do to help them. Actually, to be more specific, all they care about is what’s in it for them. If they don’t see the immediate value in going to your site, they won’t go. Once you understand this, the rest comes down to how to construct such a resource box.

I have found that a great resource box can be divided into three parts. The first part is where you remind the reader of the problem that they’re having. The second part is where you give them the site where they can have that problem solved and the third part is where you tell them what they can expect to get out of going to that site. Let me give you an example resource box that I use for one of my sites.
