    Article Writing Tips – Keeping Out of Trouble

    Filed under: Article Writing;

    In this installment of my article writing tips series, I am going to touch on a subject that very few people tackle. It’s about writing articles so that you don’t end up with a lawsuit on your hands…or worse. I know a lot of people don’t really think about these things when they write, but they need to. The world out there is very protective of itself and ruffling feathers can sometimes land you in a world of trouble. And quite honestly, it’s not worth it. I’m going to share three tips for keeping out of trouble. Please take this to heart.

    Tip number one is simple. Get your facts straight. Don’t write articles about anything where you have to present factual information without first making sure that the facts are accurate. If you write something about a person, product or company and you don’t have your facts straight, you can open yourself up to a lawsuit or worse. Many big companies are very protective of their reputations. So if you’re going to sling mud, you better have the facts to back it up.

    Tip number two is also simple but hard for many to take to heart. When writing about a general problem, such as with a certain kind of product or service, try to refrain from mentioning any company by name. The reason for this is because again, you are opening yourself up to being sued. If you speak in generalities, nobody in particular can come after you. For example, let’s say you want to warn people about a certain kind of investing. As long as you don’t mention any investment companies by name, you’re safe.

    The final tip is one that I hope you’ll take to heart as well. Before writing the article, sit down and really decide if it’s worth all the grief you’re going to get from it. If it’s a controversial article, trust me, you’re going to get grief and sometimes the benefits just don’t outweigh the consequences. So make darn sure that writing this article is worth all the trouble that it may very well cause you.

    If you take these three tips to heart, you will find that your article writing career is a long and happy one.
