Article Writing Tips – More is Not Always Better
Filed under: Article Writing; Tagged as: Article Writing, tips on article writing, writing an articleNo CommentsI hear it all the time…your article has to be a certain length to be effective. If it’s too short, you won’t get the response you’re looking for. Well, I totally disagree. And this is coming from somebody who has written some pretty long articles. Truth is, more is not always better. If you’re scratching your head wondering why, this article is going to explain.
One thing that a lot of beginning writers have a problem with is organizing their thoughts, especially if they’re writing on a topic that has a lot of information and one that they’re not too familiar with. In trying to cram as much info into the article as they can, one of two things usually happens. The first is that they begin to repeat themselves because they forgot what they wrote in paragraph one by the time they get down to paragraph ten. The other problem is that, with so much information to impart, it is easy to mix things up or simply confuse the living daylights out of your reader because you lost them back in paragraph six.
Aside from the organization and confusion issue, there is then the issue of how much information there is to write on the subject. Believe it or not, not every subject has a ton of information on it. For that matter, not every subject NEEDS a ton of information on it. Some articles can easily be imparted in 250 words or less. Yeah, I know, many article directories have word quotas, and that’s fine. So if what you have to say can’t be stretched out to meet their quota, don’t submit it. Put it up on your blog. There are no word requirements for blog posts. Whenever I write an article that can be said in a few words, I put it on my blog.
And then of course there is the purpose of your article. If you’re writing for marketing purposes, the last thing you want to do is write an article that is so long that it either puts your reader to sleep or gives them so much information that they don’t need to check out your product or service. A shorter article, but one that gives them enough info to be helpful, will do a better job in the marketing department.
In short, say what you have to say and then get out of Dodge.
Which is exactly what I’m going to do now.
To YOUR Success,
