Article Writing Tips – Put Your Heart Into Your Writing
Filed under: Article Writing; No CommentsI don’t know if you’re a golf fan or not, but if you are and if you missed the recent US Open, you missed one of the greatest golf moments of all time. Fortunately, for those who missed it, there have been some really great writers who really captured that moment. I won’t give you any specific articles. Just head on over to Google and look up “US Open” and you’re bound to find several great ones capturing the true drama and excitement of the tournament…especially the last round and 19th hole.
And the reason why these articles are so great is simple. These writers put their heart and soul in their writing. Reading the accounts of what actually went down this past weekend, you get the feeling that you were actually there…living every moment of every stroke. When Tiger Woods needed that put on the 72nd hole to force a sudden death playoff, as he began to inch slowly to his left as the ball approached the cup, as he clenched his fists and let out a roar that could probably be heard in the next state…you knew you had just witnessed something special.
The problem with so many articles, and the reason why many readers tune out after the first paragraph, is that the writer just doesn’t put any feeling into them. He simply spits out some facts and thinks that’s going to do the job. The only job that’s going to do is to put the reader to sleep. That’s why the top writers in the country get paid so well. They know how to capture and hold the reader’s attention. Sure, they give the facts, but they also paint them with vivid pictures that bring those facts to life.
I have been asked if you can teach somebody how to be emotional and lively in their writing. I honestly don’t know. It’s a form of talent and I’m not sure talent can be taught. However, it can be tapped into. Whatever talent you DO have is not going to come out if you don’t put in the effort to bring it out. That means, shudder the thought, having to work at it. Instead of settling for just ANY word, how about looking for JUST the right word? Sure, it might take a few extra minutes, but the results will be worth it.
People may actually read your articles.
Now THAT is novel concept.
