Article Writing Tips – Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say
Filed under: Article Writing; Tagged as: Article Writing, tips on article writing, writing an articleNo CommentsI can’t stand wimpy article writers. They’re so afraid to take on controversial subjects and take a stance on them because they’re afraid of the backlash that they’re going to get. Let me tell you something, nobody ever made it in this business by playing it safe. I have never been afraid to speak my mind and I’m not going to start now. So pay attention because you just might learn something from this article.
Okay, obviously we’re talking about writing opinion pieces here. These can be so fun and juicy and yet so many people just wimp out here. So let’s get down to how to write an opinion piece.
The first step is to present the facts on whatever it is you’re going to give your opinion on. You can’t have an opinion on something without first stating the obvious. The reason you have to do this is because not everybody who is going to read your article is going to know the facts. So make sure you get them and make sure you report them accurately. Now, I know that this part of the article might be a little dry, so report the facts quickly and get out. If you bore your readers, you’re done. One paragraph should do it.
After you’re done with the facts, you can now give your opinion on whatever it is. But don’t do something like say, “I think that’s a load of horse manure.” This doesn’t say anything. If you have an opinion, you have to explain the opinion. For example, let’s say I have an opinion on article writers being wimpy. I can’t just say that they are. I have to back it up with some facts. So maybe I’ll point to an article directory for people to read some of the wimpy opinion pieces writers have come up with so that they can see for themselves. In other words, your opinion MUST be based on some kind of evidence. Otherwise, your opinion is worthless.
I don’t write a lot of opinion pieces but when I do, watch out. I don’t hold back. So remember, when you write something, say what you mean and mean what you say. Otherwise, you run the risk of being called a wimp.
And nobody wants to be called THAT.
To YOUR Success,
