Article Writing Tips – Y is For Yesterday’s News
Filed under: Article Writing; Tagged as: Article Writing, tips on article writing, writing an articleNo CommentsThe bets are still coming in that I’m not going to pull this one off. Yeah, I know…Z is going to be a killer. But don’t you worry, I’ve got something delicious planned for that letter. Anyway, we’re up to the letter Y and that stands for yesterday’s news. If you’re wondering where I’m going with this, keep reading. You’ll find out.
I remember an episode of MASH where Hawkeye said to Frank Burns, “Frank, there is no need to state the incredibly obvious. The merely obvious will do just fine.” Or something like that. The point is, a lot of articles I read are so obvious that it’s like, why did they bother writing it at all? I mean, do you REALLY need to write an article to tell people that the world is round? Don’t you think everybody knows that the world is round by now? If not, they really need to go to school or something.
Too many article writers are simply cranking out content for the purpose of having something to say. We can do with less of that. Yesterday’s news is yesterday’s news. How about something fresh and new? How about, at the very least, bringing some new information to an old topic? Believe me, there are plenty of twists you can use for just about any subject. For example, let’s take the “world is round” issue. What if we wrote an article with this title?
“What If The World Wasn’t Round?”
You could then go on to say what would happen to all of us. Naturally, you’d have to know a bit about science to write such an article. It’s certainly not something I would personally tackle, but the point is, such an article would actually generate quite a bit of interest. You’re speculating on something that is so implausible that people would want to know what you think. Trust me, that article WOULD get read.
So please, if you’re going to write about yesterday’s news, at the very least, bring something new to the table. Nobody wants to read that Columbus discovered America in 1492. But if you could tell readers something about his craving for lasagna, then THAT would be something to write about.
