I never thought about it that way before. The Wordpress platform is powerful, but it is the add ons that really make it great. I suppose it spread it's wings through a whole batch of tech guys out there.

I couldn't reply to the thread because it was closed while I was still reading. Danny was trying to prove a point that a business is not sustainable if the investment is higher than the expected return. Obviously, if you spend more than you make, you're not making money.

But why must affiliates invest more than they expect to earn in return? Every time he was given an example of this, he's retaliated with his 100% risk vs. <100% return (commission). The problem with his math is that he doesn't tell what is the percentage of. Judging from his other posts he probably means 100% of product price. That would mean you spend the price tag of a product to sell one unit. That's an example of unsustainable business model, but it doesn't mean all business models based on affiliate marketing are unsustainable.

He also gives a lot of drawbacks of affiliate marketing, to strengthen his point. Albeit most of those arguments are true, they have nothing to do with the sustainability.

Also, his point that affiliate marketing is just a job is moot. Any job can be turned into a business.

The bottom line is, for a business to be sustainable, you have to spend less than you make. You can work it out to the very last detail, taking into account all risks, and still have a sustainable business plan. The simple fact that Steven and others (including myself) are doing it over a period of time is enough proof to show that it's possible.

I have to agree with those who said it in the thread, throwing a couple of numbers around like that and calling it "the truth" only shows the ignorance and arrogance among other things.

The BODY of your article is where you "GIVE" and the RESOURCE BOX is where you get to "TAKE" for your article marketing gift of information. The resource box is the "currency of payment" you receive for giving away your article. Be sure to include your name, website address, your unique selling proposition as briefly as possible and a simple call to action.

Hi Steve,

Well like they say everyone got an opinion like they got a nose. We all know that you are living proof that it does work! I have learned alot just by watching what you do.

The only problem with his statements is that newbies will view that as gospel and not try affiliate marketing, which will be a shame.

I've got one word for ya.

AMAZON

Amazon would not have grown to the online giant they are without an affiliate program.

When you are a full time affiliate marketer, you are a STUDENT of your profession. Therefore you constantly promote different products.

I mean, you can only promote the money siphon system for so long before the well dries up. However, when you are a STUDENT of your profession, you can always find great products to promote. Most bloggers (in the IM field) are full time affiliate marketers.

Take Lynn Terry for example. She rarely creates her own products and she runs a 6 figure online empire.

Saying the affiliate business is not sustainable is like saying direct mail is dead.

Neither of which is true.

Affiliate marketing will be around as long as there are buyers and direct mail will always be king.

Peace,

Shane

I think the guy might be yanking chains and doesn't know what is going on in regards to affiliate marketing sounds like he just wants attention. Most likely he doesn't really understand it completely as you do. I admit I don't know much about it, but many of us know you do. If I was a betting person my money would be on you when it comes to making money online period.
