Copyriting Tips – Do You Have a Checklist?
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsThis article is going to make a big assumption that maybe it shouldn’t make, but we all have to start somewhere. It’s going to assume that you have a basic understanding of copywriting tactics and can put together a sensible sales letter. If not, please go find some of my other articles on the subject, such as writing headlines, bullet points and so on, and then come back to this one. It is important to have at least a decent grasp of copywriting if you’re going to understand how important this article really is.
Assuming you’re ready for what’s next, let’s move on. Okay, you can write a decent sales letter. But you’re not a machine. I know I’m not. I sometimes forget things. This is especially true now that I’ve passed the magic five-oh mark. If my head wasn’t attached, I sometimes think I’d leave it at the diner. Point is, I need a checklist to write sales letters now because I do tend to forget important things. Now yeah, the main stuff I won’t forget, like starting off with a killer headline. But when it comes to the nuts and bolts and the small details, that’s when we tend to forget things.
For example, does my sales letter flow smoothly? Am I seamlessly going from one thought to the next or does it sound like I’m jumping all over the place? If you’re writing story driven salescopy, which in my opinion is the best kind, you want to make sure that the story starts at the beginning, has a middle and then has a definite end. So my checklist will include making sure that my story flows. I’ll then read it after it’s written to make sure that I didn’t skip over any of the important parts of the story.
Another thing I might forget is my tactic for presenting the price. It’s so easy to just say, “You can have all this for $X.” However, it’s so much better to first show the prospect how much the package is actually worth by breaking it down and assigning a dollar amount to each part of the package and then totaling it up at the end. This way, when they see the price as compared to what it’s worth, they’re realize what a great bargain it is they’re getting. This tactic is easy to forget when you’re in a rush. So I make this part of my checklist…”Don’t forget to calculate value of package compared to price.”
Each of us is going to have our own little thing that we need to write down because we don’t think of it all the time. Some people, especially those first starting, have to write down everything. That’s okay. There is nothing wrong with having a checklist. It keeps you from forgetting what’s important and gives you the best shot at writing a sales letter that will actually convert.
To YOUR Success,
