Copywriting Tips – A is For Attention
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsAIDA. It’s not just a Broadway play or a really long and boring opera. It’s the credo of most, if not all, copywriters. It’s essentially what makes a great sales letter what it is. Well, I thought it was time to dust off the old cobwebs and go into each of these in detail. So, in this particular article, I’m going to talk about the first A…attention…as in how to get somebody’s. After reading this, you should get a pretty good idea of just how to get somebody’s attention with YOUR sales letter.
To start with, you have your headline. It’s the first thing that people see. It is also responsible for 80% of your sales. Why? The reason is simple. If your headline doesn’t grab their attention right away, they’re not going to read the rest of your copy. That’s all there is to it. So a compelling headline is critical for getting your prospect’s attention.
After the headline, you need a compelling story. You can’t just go right into a sales pitch. The prospect doesn’t know you and right now, doesn’t trust you. So you have to gain that trust. The best way to do that is with a compelling story about yourself related to the product you’re selling. You might talk about how horrible your life was before you got the product and then how good it became afterwards. The more details you put into the story the more attention you’ll get.
Other ways to attract attention is with carefully placed Johnson boxes with testimonials. Prospects want to know what other people think of your product. Johnson boxes are rather in your face, so it’s hard to miss them. If they also contain a photo of the person giving the testimonial, this adds credibility and also gets even more attention because now, it looks like it’s a real person behind the words.
Once you lose your prospect’s attention, you’ve lost the sale. That’s why you want the general flow of the sales letter to be smooth. You don’t want it to drag. You want to split up the sections with sub headlines. This keeps the prospect’s attention by not putting to much copy in one section and thus boring your reader to death.
Follow these few simple tips and you’ll have no problem keeping your prospect’s attention on YOUR sales letter.
