Copywriting Tips – Can Sincerity Be Enough?

There are a lot of tricks in the trade of copywriting. Any copywriter worth his salt has learned them all. And any marketer who has been around the block a few times can spot them a mile away. This leads a lot of people to putting down sales letters because, well, because they’re enough to make most people sick. I’ve gotten to the point where the only reason I read sales copy anymore is because I know I need to keep up with what’s going on in the world of copywriting. But trust me, after reading most sales letters, I want to go cry in my beer.

There is a lot lacking in today’s sales copy. Sure, the slickness is there, but where’s the sincerity? What’s that? Well, you know…that thing you do when you want a person to believe that you really care about their well being. Novel concept, I know. But think about it. Imagine if copywriters simply put together a sales letter that was sincere and communicated to the prospect in a way that made them believe that on the other end of the sales pitch was somebody who truly cared about them getting the help they needed. Sincerity…can it be enough to make a sales letter fly?

Don’t get me wrong, you still have to give prospects the facts. You’ll still need your bullet points pointing out the benefits of getting the product. But do we really need the rest of the hype? Do we really need the overblown headlines? Sure, we need to capture the prospect’s attention but can’t we do it without making most people roll their eyes in the process? Read some of the headlines in the make money online niche. Some of them are so bad that parodies have been made about them. Just read the sales letter for “Buy My Stupid Ebook.” It’s funny because it’s so true and everybody knows it.

But is that the impression we want to give people? It’s not like Internet marketing doesn’t have a bad enough name as it is.

Anyway, it’s just a thought. I’m not suggesting that sincerity in sales copy alone is going to make the sale.

    But it sure can’t hurt.
