Copywriting Tips – Creating A Sense Of Urgency
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsImagine that it’s the end of the world coming. You have a rocket ship that will take just 100 people to another planet. Can you imagine how much you could charge for that ride? More importantly, can you imagine what kind of response you’d get if you put out an ad that said, “End Of World Near…Rocket Ship To Mars…Only 100 Seats Available.” How long do you think it would be before you sold all 100 seats? My guess is that if you ran the ad at 7 PM, by 7 PM and 30 seconds, all 100 seats will have been sold. THAT is what we call urgency. It is that kind of urgency that sells products. This article is going to show you HOW to incorporate that urgency into your sales letter.
One way to create a sense of urgency when selling your product is like I said above. Limit the number of copies of your product that you’re going to sell. Have the sales copy specifically state that after X number of units are sold, it’s gone. Naturally, you better be a man of your word or your credibility is shot. However, by limiting the number of units, you can charge a premium for the item. Imagine selling a comprehensive marketing course for $447 and limiting it to 100 sold. That’s $44,700 of income. For some people, that’s a year’s salary.
Another way to create a sense of urgency is not by limiting the number of units sold but by limiting the number of units sold at a specific price. For example, you can state in your copy that only 100 units will be sold at the $447 price. After that, the price goes up to $997. How long do you think it will be before the first 100 units are sold? You may not make many sales at $997, but you’ve already made quite an income on the product already.
Another way to create a sense of urgency is by stating that the item will only be on sale at this price for X number of days or X number of hours…whichever you choose. This will also have prospects scrambling for their wallets to beat out everybody else.
By creating a sense of urgency, you push your prospect over the edge from prospect to buyer. Many people are driven by this sense of urgency because of fear of loss. They are afraid that they’ll lose out on a good deal, regardless of whether or not they even need the item. Alas, that IS human nature.
