Copywriting Tips – Do Your Own Thing
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsOkay beginning copywriters…listen up. Stop going to the top selling sales pages and copying what’s on there almost word for word for the product you’re writing a sales page for. It doesn’t work that way. If you don’t understand why, please keep reading. I promise you that this article is going to be a real eye opener for many people.
Beginning copywriters are under the impression that if they just copy the masters they’ll write great sales letters. Wrong…big time wrong. What these people fail to understand is that these top notch copywriters have reasons for doing what they do in the places that they do it. Without understanding the why behind those reasons, you’re running the risk of saying the wrong thing in the wrong place and turning what could have been a decent sales letter into a disaster.
I’m not saying not to learn from the masters. I’m saying to learn WHY they do the things that they do. You will notice, if you take a look at sales letters from a particular writer, that not all of his sales letters are formatted the same way. Why not? If he has a specific “formula” for writing, why aren’t all the letters the same format? The reason is because not all markets are the same. People in the music niche respond differently from people in the health niche. Think about it. Is a person looking for a cool hip hop production system going to be of the same mindset as somebody suffering from asthma? I sure hope not. You have use different techniques to reach each market.
Ultimately, you want to do your own thing. Don’t be a copycat. Yes, understand the underlying triggers. Understand what turns a prospect into a buyer. Understand why testimonials are important. Don’t just toss them up there because you see them on every sales page in creation. There is a reason why these things are done. Understand the reasons and you’ll become a better copywriter.
So get out there, start studying, and stop being a copycat.
You’ll thank me for this advice in the long run.
To YOUR Success,
