Copywriting Tips – Handling Copywriter’s Block
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsEvery great copywriter has it happen to them at one time or another. They sit down to write the world’s greatest sales copy and nothing comes out. And the harder they try, the worse it gets. I’ve been there as well, though I have to admit, not often. But when it does happen, it’s time to reach into my bag of tricks to get the juices flowing again. This article will reveal my personal secrets for dealing with this problem. Trust me…they work.
The first thing I do is walk away from the computer, or wherever it is I may happen to be writing. The more you stare at the screen or your pad or whatever, the worse it’s going to get. I am speaking from experience. Go take a walk. If it’s too cold outside or it’s raining cats and dogs, watch some TV. Don’t like TV? Read a book. Listen to a CD. Do something…just not work. Give your mind a chance to relax. You’ll come back to what you’re doing refreshed and ready to go.
If that doesn’t work, go back to the product you’re writing the copy for. If it’s a digital informational product, read it through again. See if you can’t get some ideas from going through it one more time. Make notes of anything that you might have missed the first time through it. Also, if something that struck you the first time through hits you differently the second time, make a note of it. Make as many notes as you can. Then compare them to the notes you had. You may find another angle that you can attack this from.
Finally, if all else fails, and this is why I always say to refer to the masters, go hunt out some sales copy in the niche you’re writing for. Read as many sales letters as you can. You’ll be surprised at how many ideas you’ll get from doing this. Again, make notes of as many things as you can when going over the work of others. Make sure you’re studying copy from people who’s products are actually selling.
These few simple tips should be more than enough to get you through the rough patches where your mind seems to have gone on vacation.
