Copywriting Tips – Have a Plan Or Fail
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsA lot of people who want to become copywriters ask me the same question…”How do I get started? Where do I begin?” It is kind of daunting when you’re first starting out. You look at all these high priced copywriters and wonder how they got to where they are. Well, this article isn’t going to launch you into the big time right away, but it is going to give you a solid plan to follow in order to have any chance at all of making it to the top.
The very first thing you MUST do is know your craft. That means getting a solid education. There are tons of places online that either teach copywriting or sell books on the subject. I’m not going to recommend any one in particular. Just hit Google, do some searching, look for some reviews on the top spots and then make a choice. If you confine yourself to the places with the best reputation, you really can’t go wrong on the educational level. Most copywriting is pretty basic, at least at the start. A good foundation is all you need. The rest will come.
And that brings me to the second part of the process…practice. Before you write one word of copy for anybody, you MUST practice by doing a few sales pages for yourself. See, there is only so much you can learn from a course or a book. The only REAL education that you get comes from actually doing it. The more you write, the better you will get at it. If you don’t have any products to sell, get a hold of somebody who does and ask him if you can write their sales page. Do it for nothing. Yes, for nothing. This is the only way you’re going to get the practice you need. Do at least three or four of these.
Finally, after you’ve written a few sales pages and have gotten some decent results, ask these people for testimonials and hang up your shingle. Start advertising your services. With a track record behind you, you’ll begin to get some clients. You won’t be able to charge the big money right away, but as you do more and more sales pages, you’ll be able to raise your fees, especially if you’re getting good results.
That’s all there is to it. There’s no magic formula to breaking into this business. The above process is pretty much the most efficient way to go about it. And, before you know it, you’ll be up there with the big names.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
