Copywriting Tips – How to Wreck a Good Copy
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsI’ve seen so many sales letters, excellently written ones, destroyed because of stupidity. What kind of stupidity? Well, this article is going to go over one of my biggest annoyances when it comes to salescopy. You might even say it’s a pet peeve of mine. Hey, we all have them and this one is mine. If you want to know what it is and how to turn YOUR sales letter into kitty litter, keep reading. You just might save YOUR sales letter from ending up in the scrap heap.
My first product was a big success. Problem is, it would have been an even bigger success had I not done this one thing. What was it? It was putting up a sales letter template that looked like it was made by a five year old. My apologies to any five year olds who actually have some talent for creating sales letter templates. Point is, mine was ugly as sin. I admit it. When I finally changed it, long after the product stopped being new, my conversion percent more than doubled. Unfortunately, because it wasn’t the big new thing anymore, the sales weren’t what I would have liked.
If only I had put up a decent looking template from the start. Now, I know what you’re thinking. What does it matter what your sales page looks like? Trust me, it matters. Appearances matter. Think about it. If you walk into a store, unless it’s a lumber store, don’t you want the store to look nice? Between two supermarkets…one looking well kept and one looking like a hurricane hit it…wouldn’t you prefer to shop at the better looking one…even if the food at the other supermarket was just as good?
It’s human nature to judge a book by its cover. It may not be right, but it’s the way it is. A fancy cover with nothing inside will sell better than a dull cover with a literary masterpiece inside. That’s why, if you notice, all those romance novels have some photo of a sexy pair of legs on the cover, or something similar. I wonder how many of those books are even worth reading?
Point is, don’t destroy your sales letter by wrapping it up in a dull template. Spend the money to have somebody design you a template that actually looks good.
Your sales letter will thank you for it.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
