Copywriting Tips – Is Video Going to Replace Long Salescopy?
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsWill video replace long salescopy? That’s a good question. I haven’t really given it much thought until recently when several people have actually mentioned that they have found video to convert much better than long salescopy. But will video work in every niche for every product? For that matter, do the results of a few people show anything definite? Anyway, I’m going to give my two cents on this subject for whatever they’re worth these days. You may or may not agree with my logic but I think you’ll find it interesting reading.
In order to answer this question, I had to put myself in the seat of the prospect. That’s something a lot of marketers have trouble doing. They think too much like marketers and not enough like buyers. Well, if I’m going to a sales page for some item that I hope will solve a problem of mine, what I expect to find is a clear and concise explanation of why this product is going to solve my problem. Just give me what I need to know in order to make an informed decision. The question is, is that better done by a long sales letter or a video? Here’s my answer.
It depends on the problem.
If I’m looking for a blender that isn’t going to break down if I put a solid carrot into it, I want to see that blender in action. No words on any sales letter are going to convince me that this blender is going to do the trick. I want to see a video. In this case, a video sales letter with a demonstration of the product is probably the most powerful method for turning a prospect into a buyer. After all, if you see this thing chopping up everything and anything, aren’t you going to be pretty sold?
Point is, if the product is more of a visual sell, I feel that a video sales letter will probably do a better job. Now, does that mean that if you’re selling something like an ebook on how to make money that a video can’t do the trick? Well, if it’s a video of testimonials from dozens of people of how this product changed their lives, or one that shows you actually using the product (something I’ve never seen yet) then there is a good chance that in this case also, the video will do an excellent selling job.
So, how do you know if YOUR product will lend itself to video? The easiest way to find out is simply to split test a video sales letter against a long copy sales letter and see which one converts better. Until you do that, anything else is just speculation.
I don’t know if video sales letters will ever replace long salescopy, but I do know that in the right situation, a video sales letter can be quite effective.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
