Copywriting Tips – Is Your Sales Letter Doing The Job?
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsYou’d be surprised how many copywriters just starting out have no clue as to whether or not their sales letter is even converting like it should. They don’t do any kind of tracking other than to see if they got a sale come into their in box overnight. That’s not the way to do tracking. However, that’s not what this article is about, though it probably should be since tracking is vital to any sales process. For now, I’m just going to show you how to get the most out of your sales letter so that when the day comes that you do track conversions, you’ll see that they are much higher.
For starters, slave over your headline. I’m serious. This one line is going to be responsible for almost all your sales. If you don’t understand why, think of it this way. If somebody reads your headline and yawns after reading it, do you really think they’re going to bother reading the rest of your copy? Trust me, they won’t. Your headline has to scream out at the prospect and make him want to read more. Can’t write a headline worth spit? No problem, at the end of this article I’ll show you how to get more info.
After the headline, you need to have a great offer. If the offer stinks, it doesn’t matter how good the headline is. Okay, so what do I mean by a great offer? Well, let me put it this way. Let’s say you knew that a top of the line PC costs $1,500 and you saw an ad for one that had even more features for just $800. Wouldn’t you think that was a great offer? Plus, if it came with free software AND a two year warrantee, wouldn’t that make it an even greater offer? When you construct your offer, think of something that will blow your prospects away. If it does…that is a great offer.
Finally, there is your call to action or close. I’ve seen so many sales letters that simply drop the ball at this part by saying something lame like, “Click below to order.” Yeah, like that’s really going to get somebody to purchase your product. You have to spoon feed the words into their mouth. Try something like, “Yes Joe, I Must Have This Amazing Watchamacallit TODAY!” You need to get them all excited. If they’re not excited, they’re not going to click on that buy button, which by the way, should be a download now button because you don’t want to remind them that they are spending money. But that’s another story.
Make these few simple changes to your sales letter and you should see conversions increase considerably.
And please make sure you track your campaigns.
