    Copywriting Tips – Make Every Single Last Word Count

    Filed under: Copywriting;

    Waste, waste, waste. I see so much of it in copywriting that it’s enough to make me sick. Words that don’t need to be said. They’re all over the place and they add nothing to the sales letter. If you want to write a sales letter that doesn’t lose the attention of your prospect, you MUST make every word count. Now, while I can’t go through every part of your copy in an article, I’m going to touch on a few areas that are critical to get right. Follow these few tips and you’ll be on your way to writing top notch salescopy.

    Let’s start with your headline. There are too many headlines out there that are just WAY too long. Heck, I’ve seen headlines that are two paragraphs long. This is just insane. If you can’t write a headline that is no more than three lines, then you haven’t said what you want to say as efficiently as possible. Your headline should, in most cases anyway, consist of a subject, a verb and a predicate. That’s it. If you’re using more than 15 words, your headline is too long. Streamline that sucker down to where it says what it has to say and says it in as few words as possible.

    After the headline is your opening paragraph. This is where you have to capture somebody’s attention with your story and do it quickly. You want to hit them with the main point of what you’re going to discuss and do it briefly. For example, one of my sales letters started with “I was out of work…out of luck…and out of money. If I had a gun in the house, I would have put it to my head and slowly squeezed the trigger…” That opening has generated more sales for me than you can imagine. It made people want to keep reading and it was only 33 words. That was my opening paragraph…powerful and intriguing.

    Finally, another place where people mess around with too many words is with their guarantee. For crying out loud, they don’t need a long song and dance when trying to find out what you’re guarantee is. All you need to do is say something like, “I am so sure you will be completely satisfied with that I am backing it up with an unconditional 6 month full money back guarantee.” That’s it. That was all of 26 words not counting the name of the product. You don’t need to go on about how you want them to be absolutely sure of their purchase and blah, blah, blah. Just tell them the guarantee and get it over with.

    That’s it. If you follow these three simple tips, you’ll be on your way to making every single last word in your sales letter count.
