Copywriting Tips – Making Your Copy Sing
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsOkay, you really don’t want to make your copy sing unless you’re writing a musical sales letter. However, you don’t want your copy to read like a history book. Sales copy has to be interesting. If it’s not, your prospect is going to click on that little X in the top right hand corner of your sales page and they will never come back. Trust me, I am speaking from experience. You are competing with a lot of noise out there. If you want your message to be read, it better sing, tap dance and play the bongos. This article will show you how to do just that.
At the top of your list should be your headline. The headline of a sales letter has to literally scream at the prospect. It has to say “Read the rest of this sales letter!” If your headline doesn’t do that, you’re sunk. Why? Because that headline is going to be responsible for about 80% of your sales. Those are the stats, like them or not. Headlines can be the make or break of your sales letter. So make sure you spend most of your time on that first line, otherwise, what comes next may not matter.
Next on the hit parade is your story. Yes, your story. If you want to keep your reader’s attention, you better have a darn good story to tell. Why? Prospects relate to stories. They want to feel like they know the person writing the sales letter. So talk about how you had all these problems before you found the cure. Then talk about the cure. Then talk about how your life is a box of chocolates since you solved your problem. Your excitement has to shine through in your sales letter. Yes, let everybody know how happy you are. Shout it from the rooftops if you have to.
Finally, close them like you mean it. Don’t just say, “click below to order.” What kind of a closing is that? That’s not a closing, it’s a funeral. You’ve gotten your prospect all pumped up. Now is the time to put the hammer down. “Yes Joe, I want this super duper fantastic thingamabob and I gotta have it NOW!” That’s how you get people excited. And if you don’t get people excited, you’re dead and so is your copy.
So make your copy sing, dance, play the tuba or whatever. Just don’t put your prospects to sleep.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
