Copywriting Tips – Sales Pages That Sizzle

Personally, I tend to stay away from glitz. But let’s be honest…if you put up a sales page that looks like it was created in an out house, you’re not going to close a lot of sales. Certainly it is important to have a sales page that is crafted as much to perfection as possible, not only in the message but in the look itself. These key items, when combined, can blast your sales to new and unprecedented heights. In this article, I’m going to share some of my tips for getting the most out of your pages so that they sizzle like a charcoal broiled steak.

The first thing you want is a template that isn’t so dull and lackluster. It doesn’t have to be all bright and shiny like a Christmas tree, but it should have some color to it. Black and white is okay for some sales copy, if you’re a straight laced corporation appealing to the suit and tie set, but if you’re hawking a hip generation “now” product, you’re going to want your page to light up just a bit.

The next item is your headline. Headlines have lost more sales than just about anything else on a sales page. The fact is, 80% of your sales come from your headline. A weak headline is going to lose your audience before they even get to the meat of the copy. You want your headline to practically jump off the page and grab the reader by the throat. If it doesn’t do this, then it’s NOT doing its job. This is why you want to test out several headlines before you even tinker with any other part of your copy.

Another great way to make your sales pages sizzle is by adding photos. Action photos have also sold many products over the years. Do you remember the ads for the Ginsu knives? Well, if you ever saw the print version of these ads, they showed a chef carving through an aluminum can with one of those fancy knives. Think that photo didn’t sell more knives? If you can add some kind of an action photo to your copy, you’re bound to increase the number of sales you make.

These are just three of the many ways you can bring your sales page to life. By having a bright template, using a headline that gets the prospect’s attention right away and by adding action photos to highlight the point you’re trying to make, you can greatly increase your sales without much else.
