Copywriting Tips – Take No Prisoners
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsI was watching one of those old comedy war films the other day and one of the characters screamed out, “Take no prisoners!” It was absolutely hysterical. Okay, you had to be there. Anyway, it got me thinking about copywriting. That’s right, copywriting. See, as copywriters, we have to go to battle everyday. Each prospect that goes to our sales page who doesn’t buy the product is a lost battle. And considering that conversion rates, when they’re good, aren’t any better than 5%, that’s a lot of lost battles. So we have to make the most of our copy. That means simply…take no prisoners.
Okay, so how do we do that? For starters, we have to grab the prospect by the throat. And that begins with our headline. I can’t even begin to tell you how many sales pages I see with the most awful headlines. The only way they’d attract any attention is if they sprouted wings and flew away. Look, your headline is going to account for 80% of your sales. So if you don’t write a headline that gets your prospect’s attention, you’re going to lose the war before the battle even begins.
After your headline, the next place where your copy has to take no prisoners is with your offer. You have to tell the prospect under no uncertain terms why this is the greatest offer on the planet. They have to feel that if they don’t take advantage of it, they’re going to miss out on something that they’re going to regret until the cows come home. That offer has to be so compelling that they’re searching for the buy now button. If the offer is lukewarm, forget it…the sale will be lost.
Finally, there is your closing. This is where so many people drop the ball. How many closings do you see that read something like this? “Click below to order.” That’s not a closing, it’s a wake. Look, if you want people to buy the product, you have to practically put the words in their mouths. You have so say something like what I say on my sales pages. Here’s an example.
“Yes Steve…I want the definitive answer to income generation NOW!”
You have to make them want it. Put the idea in their head. Remember, take no prisoners.
If you follow the above advice, you’ll find that you’ll win a lot more wars than you’re winning now.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
