Copywriting Tips – The Transition
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsThe perfect sales letter flows like water out of a new faucet. The problem that many copywriters have is transitioning from one part of the copy to another. You’ve just said one thing, want to move on to something else, but don’t quite know how to do it so that it sounds natural. This article will share a common technique that I use that works quite well. I think you will find it most helpful.
The best way to explain this technique is with an example. To understand the example, however, you need to know a little bit about copywriting structure. Every sales letter is different and there are many ways to approach a prospect. This particular method involves presenting the prospect with the problem that they’re facing and then showing them what the solution is. The transition is going from problem to solution. You want to do this as smoothly as possible so that the prospect doesn’t see it coming.
Here’s the example. Let’s use a hypothetical acne cure sales letter. First, we remind the prospect of the problem.
“Tell me if this doesn’t sound familiar. You’re all psyched up for the senior prom or whatever hot date it is that you’ve got. You just bought a new outfit that you know you’re going to look like a knockout in. Then you wake up that morning, look in the mirror and much to your horror…find a zit right in the middle of your forehead. You know that this is a sure death sentence for the evening as there is just no way to get rid of this problem in time…until now.”
See what I did? I presented the problem and reminded the prospect that there was just no way to solve it in time…until now. The “until now” part of the sales copy sets up what’s about to follow. It’s the transitional phrase, as I like to call it. What follows can be something like this…
“I recently discovered a sure fire natural cure for acne that works in just a few hours. Apply it first thing in the morning and by the time your date comes around that evening…nobody will know that you woke up looking like a Frankenstein monster.”
And so on.
This tactic is very effective in transitioning from problem to solution.
Try it sometime…you might be surprised by the results.
To YOUR Success,
