Copywriting Tips – Working Under Stress And Meeting Deadlines
Filed under: Copywriting; Tagged as: Copywriting, copywriting course, Copywriting tips, copywriting tips for beginners, learn copywritingNo CommentsOne of the biggest problems with copywriting, or anything for that matter, is working under stress, especially when you have deadlines to meet. It doesn’t matter if it’s your own product or somebody else’s. If you’re planning on a January 1 launch, then your copy better be ready by then. So what happens when you’re under stress and suddenly you find that the ideas aren’t coming? The natural thing to do is panic. Well, hopefully, after reading this article, you won’t have to panic any longer. I’m going to share with you some of my best tips for writing copy under pressure. Hopefully, after reading this, you’ll be able to cope with just about any situation that arises.
The first thing you want to do when you find you’re getting stressed out over your copy is relax. I know this is easier said than done, but trust me, unless you take a deep breath and take things one step at a time, you’re not going to have a prayer of getting through the ordeal. But this is just the start.
The next thing you want to do is take your copy in little bits and pieces. It’s natural to look at the job you have in front of you and say to yourself, “Oh my goodness, I have a headline, bullet points, subheads, testimonials and on and on to write. I can’t cope with all this.” Well, you don’t have to. See, copy doesn’t get written all at once. The best copywriters take their copy one section at a time and work on just THAT section until they get it right. So start with your headline and make sure you’re happy with it before you go one step farther. Forget you even have anything else to write. For that period of time, the only thing that should be on your mind is the headline.
Even when writing the bulk of your copy, or what I call “the story” you should concentrate on just one paragraph at a time. Don’t worry about what you’re going to say in paragraph two until you have paragraph one down just the way you want it. Don’t even think of moving on until THAT paragraph is perfect. That way, you can leave that paragraph behind you and never look back until you proof your whole copy. Then you can make whatever changes you like in a relaxed manner.
Finally, if you have to, and this works for me, after each section of copy that you write, take a short break of about five minutes. Go walk around the house. Get a snack. Do something. Just get your mind off of the copy. Then, go back to the section you just wrote, make any changes if you feel the need, and then move on to the next section. Your mind will be fresh and you’ll be able to think a lot more clearly when starting up again.
I have been following the above tips for years and they have always worked for me, even in the midst of PC crashes and family crises. By taking it one step at a time, you’ll eventually get the job done…on time.
