Affiliate Marketing Tips – Are You Making These Common Deadly Mistakes?
No CommentsThere is nothing wrong with making mistakes. I’ve made my share of them, trust me. However, when we don’t learn from our mistakes, that’s when we run into trouble because we end up with the same miserable results time after time. As an affiliate marketer, I learned this the hard way from over six years of affiliate marketing. I am going to share with you three of the worst mistakes I made selling other people’s products. Hopefully, you will learn from these as I did.
When I first started, over six years ago, one of the biggest mistakes I made was in my ad writing. I didn’t focus on the things that were important when selling anything, not just an affiliate product. I forgot that, at least in the mind of the prospect, the only thing that matters is what’s in it for them. I didn’t make them see exactly what it was that the product would do and how it was the BEST product to help them with their problem. I didn’t reinforce how the product would improve their life. I don’t make that mistake anymore.
Another big mistake I used to make was not tracking my promotions. I’d get a sale and would have no idea which ad or which marketplace it came from? How can I duplicate my efforts and put my ads out in the places that would get me the best results if I didn’t know where those results were coming from? Marketing in the dark, which is what I call this, is one of the biggest mistakes anybody could make, regardless of whether you’re selling an affiliate product or your own product. Always track your ads.
Finally, I looked for the hottest products I could find. I failed to realize that there were hundreds of other affiliates who were doing the same thing. Sure, you can make money selling hot products, but the truth is, for somebody just starting out, with no track record and no list, selling the top selling product of the day is a hard sell. Why? You’re competing with marketers who are offering bonuses and incentives that you can’t possibly meet. Ultimately, you make very few sales…if any at all. Start with products that aren’t so high profile and you’ll have a much easier time of it.
There you have it. The three biggest mistakes that I made when I first started out as an affiliate marketer. I didn’t focus on benefits, I didn’t track my ads and I tried selling the hottest product out there along with marketers who had much more experience than I did. Avoid these three things and you’ll find your results improving by a great deal.
