Lots of affiliate marketers don’t really care what they promote. As long as they get paid for it, that’s all that matters. It could be the biggest piece of junk on the planet and they don’t care. The bottom line is all that matters. Well, this article is going to explain to you why you have to be careful about what you promote. Believe it or not, it does matter and promoting a substandard product, while maybe padding your wallet, will do very little for your business in the long run.

For starters, and this is what so many affiliate marketers don’t get, crappy products also come with huge refunds. Yes, I know…many buyers are too lazy to ask for refunds, and that’s a shame because if they did, a lot of these poor products would stop selling. Just the same, you will get quite a few refunds when you promote a bad product. And why waste your time promoting something that in the long run won’t give you the best return, when you can instead promote something that will actual sell well and not end up returned? To me, that’s just common sense.

More importantly than the returns though is your reputation. Believe it or not, as an affiliate, you have a role in this other than just passing out a link. When you post and ad or a review on a certain product, you are, in a sense, endorsing the product. Now, if you endorse a product that turns out to be garbage, the people who you referred it to, whether they returned it or not, they’re going to remember it was you and they’re not likely to buy anything you recommend in the future. If you lose enough potential customers, this IS going to hurt your business. There is no way around it.
