Believe me, I know how frustrating it can be as an affiliate marketer. When I first started, I was happy to get a few sales here and there. But once I finally understood what it took to really succeed in this business, I started getting sales daily. I won’t lie to you. It’s going to take some work. But if you’re up to it, this article will get you started. I can’t go into complete detail (it would take a book) but I can give you some idea of what you’ll need to do.

First off, you need a killer product…something that your target market is going to see the value of. It has to have a killer sales page. If you’re not sure how to evaluate a sales page, have an expert look at it for you. Don’t guess. Promoting a product with a crappy sales page, no matter how much effort you put into it, is going to lead to a lot of frustration.

Secondly, you need to promote the heck out of it. There are tons of methods online that you can use to promote an affiliate product. I’m going to cover a few here.

Start off with writing articles pertaining to that niche. Write as many as you can or hire somebody to write them for you. The more articles you write, the more content you get out there, the more eyeballs you’re going to get to your site. Submit these articles to all the top directories. This won’t cost you anything but your time.

But it doesn’t stop there. You need to dig into web 2.0 sites like Squidoo. You need to get quality pages up online with content that is going to help these people. On these pages, you’ll also include links to your product. But the main focus should be on content. You don’t want to come off as being a salesman. Also, you want to put up one page specifically focused on reviewing the product. You’ll need to get a copy to do this.

We’re just getting started. Next, you want to start cranking out some videos. Video marketing is HUGE today. If you go to Google and look up just about anything, you’ll find that videos appear at the top of the search results, especially if they’re at YouTube. The reason is because Google owns YouTube. You want to take advantage of this. Your videos should be instructive in nature. Only at the end of them do you want to give them a link to your site.

Finally, make sure you join the hottest social networking sites like Twitter and build a following. Direct these people to your various sites, especially your blog which is a MUST for any kind of marketing. Give away free information such as a newsletter. Build your list. Too many affiliate marketers don’t do this. Once you get a list of prospects who trust you, you’ll make a lot more sales.

This is really just the tip of the iceberg, but it should get you started.
