Affiliate Marketing Tips – Spotting the Flaws
No CommentsI remember a long time ago, when I was heavily into songwriting, something that was said to me that I will never forget. The gentleman’s name was Steve Zuckerman. He was the guy responsible for discovering Bon Jovi. He said to me, “Steve, it’s very hard to look at our own child and admit that he has cancer.” In other words, we can’t listen to our songs objectively to hear the flaws. Once I understood this, I was able to become a better writer. What does this have to do with affiliate marketing? Sit back and relax and I’ll explain.
We’re a proud bunch of people, we affiliate marketers. We set our minds on doing something and nobody can tell us different. We’re right and they’re wrong. Our way is the best way. Heck, it’s the only way. The problem with that train of thought is that the prospect seeing our campaign may not react the way we would like…just like when we play somebody our great song and they say it stinks. That’s a real kick in the head isn’t it? Truth is, it doesn’t matter what YOU think about your marketing tactics. The only thing that matters is results. So, what do you do when the results don’t come?
You need to stand back and objectively look at what you’re doing. You need to look at it from the perspective of the prospect. In other words, you need to pretend that YOU are the one who is interested in purchasing this product. You have to look at your presell and HONESTLY answer this question. “Did it do the job it was supposed to do and convince me that this product is the right one for me?” If the answer is no, then you have to reevaluate what you’re doing.
Is this hard to do? It’s one of the hardest things in the world, admitting that your child has cancer. But if you can’t do this, you are going to be doomed to make one failed marketing campaign after another. Eventually, I would hope that the lack of sales would get you to at least make some minor changes to your tactics. Maybe try a different squeeze page. Maybe try a longer review of the product than the one you have now. If the review is VERY long, maybe it’s too long. Maybe you’re putting your prospect to sleep. So maybe try a shorter one.
If you keep doing the same thing over and over and keep getting the same result and refuse to make changes, then that is the classic definition of insanity.
Your child has cancer. It’s time to find a cure.
