Did you ever go into a store and talk to a salesperson who seemed like they were just born to sell whatever it is you went into buy? There are some few exceptional people in the world who can sell just about anything. But for most salespersons, the key to making the sale is knowing your product. As an affiliate marketer, this means finding a product that is just the right fit for YOU.

You’re probably thinking, “what does it matter?” Yeah, I know. You can just send some prospect off to a sales page from a redirect from some three line ad or whatever, but do you really think that’s going to bring you the best result? In my experience, the best results come from knowing the product, understanding the product and believing in the product. I’ll give you an example.

About a year or so ago, I sold Nitro Marketing Blueprint. Why? I really believed in it. As a matter of fact, I believed in it so much that I wrote a review about it and even made a video talking about it. But the real key to my promoting the product successfully was that I understood the product. I could relate to it. See, what Nitro Marketing Blueprint taught was what I actually did to become a successful Internet marketer. I could tell people, from first hand experience with the principles inside, that this product WOULD bring results if they used it properly. Had I not understood the product and the principles, I couldn’t have related to prospects in that way.

Like it or not, you’re not going to be good at selling everything. For example, if you have no knowledge of health related issues and no real love for health products, you’re going to make a poor salesperson. If you think I’m wrong, try putting your heart into a review of a product that you really don’t understand that well, if at all. Just saying, “It made me feel better” isn’t going to be good enough…not when there are affiliate marketers who are going to be able to take that product apart piece by piece.

So do yourself a big favor. Stick to promoting products that you understand and can relate to. I guarantee that you’ll do a much better job of selling them.
