Affiliate Marketing Tips – The Wrong Decisions For the Wrong Reasons
No CommentsThe thought process that the average affiliate marketer goes through absolutely baffles me at times. Many new affiliates make decisions based on factors that are so off base that it’s a wonder these people have any success at all. In this article, I’m going to go over three decisions that affiliate marketers make when choosing a product and explain why they may not be the best ones to make. Hopefully, after reading this, your own process for choosing products will improve.
Let’s start off with my biggest complaint. Many affiliate marketers will choose a product to promote simply because it is brand new and created by some hot shot guru. They figure it’s bound to be a good one so they’re going to make tons of sales because of it. Well, this is totally faulty reasoning. Believe it or not, not every product that every guru comes out with is a big seller. Secondly, most of these products have so many people promoting them that your chances of getting any significant number of sales is slim to none. Plus, what if the product IS crap? Think you’ll score any points with the people you sold it to, not to mention all the refunds you’re going to get hit with?
Another big complaint I have is that marketers choose products from the Clickbank marketplace based solely on the product’s gravity. They figure the higher the gravity, the easier it is to sell since so many people are already selling it. Again, this is a false assumption. Just because a product has a gravity of 300 doesn’t mean anything. Those 300 affiliates could have made maybe 1 or 2 sales each simply because there is so much competition. It’s a lot easier to sell a product with a gravity of 20, which has also proven itself to sell otherwise you wouldn’t see that many affiliates with sales.
Finally, affiliates choose products based solely on the commission percentage. Just because a product pays 75% commission doesn’t mean it makes sense to promote it. If the product sells for only 19.95, 75% of that is only $15. I’d rather promote a product that has a commission percent of 50% that sells for $47. I’m making over $23 per sale with that product. Affiliates get too caught up in the numbers and don’t look at the things that really matter.
Of course there are many more mistakes that affiliate marketers make, but correcting these three should improve your results significantly.
