Affiliate Marketing Tips – Why You Can’t Sell Water to a Man in The Desert
No CommentsQuite a claim, wouldn’t you say? It’s one thing not being able to sell an affiliate product, one that maybe somebody could live without, but not being able to sell water to a man in the desert? Isn’t that a little extreme? I mean, any marketer should be able to do that…or should they? Well, keep reading this article and maybe you’ll understand where I’m going with this. It just might help improve your chances of having success as an affiliate marketer.
Let’s say you’re out in that desert and you see a man dying of thirst. You have a bottle of spring water. You ask just $1 for it. The man looks at you. He notices that you’re dressed rather shabbily. Your clothes are ripped and torn. You haven’t shaved in weeks. Your hair is a mess. You have this look in your eye that he just doesn’t trust. He looks at the water, looks at you, and finally says, “That’s okay, I’ll wait until somebody else comes along.” You couldn’t even sell water to a man in the desert.
Now, you’re probably wondering what this story has to do with affiliate marketing. Well, that’s the problem. Too many affiliate marketers don’t realize how important appearances are. For example, the email or ad that you write to tell prospects about your offer. If it’s sloppy, or sounds like a sleazy sales pitch, do you really think you’re going to make many sales, if any at all? The world outside is a very skeptical one at best. If you come off as a slick salesman, you’re going to turn off a lot of your prospects, if not all of them.
There is an old saying that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Unfortunately, when it comes to sales, that’s all your prospect has to go by. They don’t know if you’re on the up and up or just another sleaze ball. The image you portray, whether intentional or unintentional, is going to greatly affect how the prospect sees you…no matter how great the product may be or how much they may need it. If I go into a supermarket to buy food and the place looks like the plague, do you think I’m going to buy anything from it?
So do yourself a favor…clean up your act. Prospects don’t like being “sold” to. They want to believe that you really CARE about their needs and that the product you recommend is really going to help them. If they don’t trust you, they won’t buy from you.
It’s THAT simple.
To YOUR Success,
