A lot of people think affiliate marketing is easy. Well, it’s not. There I said it. Now that I’ve blown away all your dreams of easy pickings, you might want to read this article and find out if you’re really cut out to be an affiliate marketer. It’s not for everybody, and it’s better you know the truth before you get yourself into something that is only going to cost you time, money and a lot of grief. Hopefully, after you are done reading this article, you’ll know just where you stand.

Okay, so why isn’t everybody cut out to be an affiliate marketer? Well, to answer that question, you first have to understand what makes affiliate marketing different from promoting your own products and services and what makes it so difficult. And make no mistake about it…this is NOT easy.

The difference between affiliate marketing and promoting your own product goes way beyond just the fact that one is your own and one isn’t. It has to do with just what that means as far as your promotional efforts, which is basically the whole ball game. See, with your own product, you don’t have to worry about banging heads with other marketers promoting that product. If anything, you WANT others to promote your product. That way you have more money coming in.

With affiliate marketing, it’s a whole different thing. See, every person who promotes the same product you’re promoting is competition for you. And let’s face it, if you’re all promoting the same product, what’s going to make a prospect buy from you rather than from John Doe? The only reason would be if you’re able to personally convince that prospect to buy from you. And that is where the difficulty comes in.

Why is it difficult? Simple. It takes ingenuity. It takes a little bit of creativity. And most affiliate marketers are just not creative. That’s all there is to it. They take the same ads that the merchant provides without adding anything new to them and just sends them off blindly. Trust me…it doesn’t work.
