You will find some interesting questions at forums. Today, I found quite a fascinating one that I’d yet to see asked before. The question is simple. Do you have to hit rock bottom before you see success online? Interesting question to say the least. However, this simple question doesn’t have a simple answer. In order to answer it, you need to hear two very short stories… mine and a friend’s.

Let’s start with mine. I started working online simply because I had no choice. I lost my job in 2000 and needed to find some way to make a living. I was broke and on the verge of losing my home. So yes, I truly had hit rock bottom. For me, it was do or die. So maybe that’s what motivated me to make this work. Long story short, seven years after I actually dove into the online world (2003) I spend most of my time now taking it easy. My business almost runs by itself.

Okay, let’s go to a friend’s story. No names will be mentioned. This person came to the online world from a completely different perspective. They were already very successful off line in the retail business as a manager of a store. They made a very good living. But they wanted more. So they quit their job and took to the online world. They became almost an immediate success. They never once hit anywhere near rock bottom.

Now, here’s the part that’s going to blow your mind. And I’ve seen it on both ends personally, so I know what I’m talking about. Some people, when faced with adversity, simply can’t handle the stress. Their lives are so torn apart that they can’t function. Hitting rock bottom doesn’t motivate them or anything positive. It simply destroys them. Yes, I’ve seen it.

Conversely, and I know you may find it hard to believe, many successful people off line can’t take to the online world. They find that it’s either more work than they anticipated or not as easy as they thought and ultimately decide that they can work LESS by going back to their high paying job. Yes, some successful people can’t hack it online. I know plenty of those folks too.

Point is, there is no prerequisite for being successful online. No one size fits all. You can be a total failure off line and make a killing online, or you can come from a successful background. Either situation can bring success. The key is how hard you are willing to work for it.

And in my experience, both successful and unsuccessful people have the drive to make the online world work for them.

Just depends on how badly they want it.
