Email Marketing Tips – Is Your Message Getting Through?
No CommentsI’ve been heavily into email marketing for over six years now. It has been one of the most consistent money makers for me during that period of time. However, I find that quite a few marketers aren’t having the success with it that they’d like. Part of the reason is that their message isn’t getting through…and I mean that literally on two levels. I’m going to explain both of them in this article.
Level one is probably the more obvious one, if you take my wording literally…the delivery of the email itself. The glory days of email marketing are long gone. Spammers have made it so that ISPs have had to put very aggressive spam filters on their incoming emails. As a result, many legit emails that should be getting delivered are not. Do you know if yours are?
One way to find out is to simply track your open rates. This can be easily done with a tracking link inside the email itself. Of course many things affect open rates besides the email getting delivered, so this alone isn’t going to give you a clear picture. To aid in this, it would be advisable to use an email delivery service like Aweber or GetResponse where you at least have a decent chance of getting a high delivery rate.
Another way to insure higher delivery is to make sure that you avoid words in your emails that trigger these spam filters. A list of these words can be easily found by going to Google and looking up “spam trigger words” or something similar. You’ll find plenty of information on what words and phrases to avoid in your emails. Doing this will also greatly increase your delivery rate.
Level two, as far as “getting your message through” is the message itself. In other words, is your message getting through to the prospect? Are you connecting with them? I can’t tell you how many emails I get that are nothing but a sales pitch…and a poor one at that. There is absolutely no attempt to try to connect with the prospect on any level other than “Give me your money!” If you think this is the way to run an email campaign, you are sadly mistaken. You need to speak to the prospect as if they were a real person. You need to let them know that you understand the problem that they’re having and you’re there to help. That’s how you connect. That’s how you get your message through.
Email marketing can be so profitable if people would just take the time to do a few simple things.
