Email Marketing Tips – Matching Message to Market
No CommentsNo offense, but some Internet Marketers are just plain stupid. They think that once they get somebody on their list they can just send them any old offer that they want. Well, it doesn’t exactly work that way. Oh sure, they could. But do you really think they’re going to get the response that they’re looking for? I’m going to give you some examples of what I’m talking about. Some are far fetched but some are not far off the mark from what actual marketers do.
Let’s start off with a far fetched example so you can see how ridiculous it is. Let’s say you’re building a list of people who are interested in learning how to grow a better garden and you send them emails on how to cure warts. Do you really think that this target market is going to be receptive to those emails? Sure, maybe some of those people actually have warts, but for the most part, the mailing is not targeted because these people are interested in growing a better garden. That we know for certain. We know nothing else about their other interests or problems.
Okay, now let’s take an example that isn’t so far fetched but still isn’t going to bring you the results that you’re looking for. Let’s say you’re building a list of people who want to learn to use AdWords advertising better and you send them an email on using email marketing. Now, both are related to marketing and there is a decent chance that people who use AdWords might also use email marketing, but you really don’t know for sure. What you DO know for sure is that they want to learn about AdWords, so that’s where you should be focusing your message.
In the “make money online” niche, the way to get around this problem is to offer “general” advice on how to improve your business. This way, you can send them emails about AdWords, list building, web design and so on. Every piece of information is somewhat targeted to their general interest…building their business.
All it takes is a little common sense. If somebody is interested in garden growing, send them emails on garden growing. If they’re interested in AdWords, send them emails on that. Don’t send them stuff that they don’t care about. You’re only going to make your list unhappy.
