Email Marketing Tips – Proofread Your Emails For Crying Out Loud
No CommentsEmail marketers beware. This is a major rant about some of the emails that I’ve been receiving in my on box of late. And the truth is, this nonsense has been going on for a long time. Well, it’s time that you email marketers started running a professional business. Otherwise, you’re going to end up with a lot of prospects providing you with no sales and a lot of negative feedback. So listen up and pay attention.
At the very top of my list, and I have no idea how anybody can let this slide, is the link to your sales page that’s in the email. For crying out loud, do you even check to make sure that the darn thing works? I mean, here I am. I just read a really cool email and I’m all excited about the product that the guy is pitching. I can’t wait to find the sales link. I finally do, click on it and what do I find? I get a 404 error. I then take a very close look at the link and notice that it is actually constructed improperly. It’s a clear typo. You know, like dot cam instead of dot com. Unbelievable. It only takes five seconds to copy and paste the link into a browser to see if it works. Do it for crying out loud.
Another pet peeve of mine is spelling and grammar mistakes all the way through the email to the point where you can just about understand the meaning of the message. Look, I don’t mind a spelling mistake or two in an email message. Even spell checkers can’t tell you that you meant their instead of there. So I can forgive those errors. But when a whole email is just one long spelling and grammar mistake, there is just no excuse for that.
Finally, there is formatting. This really gets my cookies. Did you ever hear of paragraphs? I get emails that are one long paragraph. No breaks, no nothing. Just one long paragraph. Do you have ANY idea how hard these things are to read? Well guess what? When I get emails like those, I don’t read them. And I seriously doubt that anybody else does.
There’s a lot more, but please at least just correct these and you’ll make me and a lot of your prospects a lot happier.
