Forum Marketing Tips – If You Want an Opinion, Make Sure You’re Ready For it
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: internet marketing strategies, internet marketing strategy, strategic internet marketingNo CommentsOne of the things that drives me crazy about forums is that many people, when asking for advice, upon getting it, rip the person’s head off who gave it to them. Makes me want to ask, “If you didn’t want my opinion, why did you ask?” Well, this article is for people who intend to participate in forums for the purpose of asking questions and hopefully getting answers. Just don’t expect the answers to be the ones you want.
Okay, so you’re about to go to your favorite forum to ask some questions about some topic. However, you just happen to be the type of person who doesn’t want to hear the bad and the ugly… just the good. In that case, this is what you need to do when you pose your question. I will give you an example. Let’s say you are asking about the pros and cons of creating a book on gambling. Here is how I would ask it to avoid what I know is coming down the pike.
“I want to create a book on gambling. So I am asking what you think would be the best way to go about writing it. Should I just give the theory or should I also include examples as well? Would screen prints help in getting my point across? Should I also make videos? Okay, before you answer, please don’t start telling me about the evils of gambling and how nobody can beat the casinos and so on. I don’t need a lecture on going to hell. I just want to know how I should go about creating the product.”
By doing this, you nip in the bud any forum members who insist on giving you their two cents on the evils of gambling. I actually learned this the hard way from a forum encounter from not too long ago. The key to making this work is to be very specific about what you DO want to get opinions on and what you DON’T want to get lectured about. Many people who would have normally gone after you with a sledge hammer will back off because NOW, they will come off looking like the bad guy.
So, before you actually pose your question, you need to go over it and write down all the pros and cons of asking it. What can the objections be? Whatever they are, you need to make note of them and make it very clear that you don’t want to hear them. By letting the other members know that you are already aware of the objections, there will be no need for them to reiterate them.
Try this the next time you head to your favorite forum in search of answers.
You might be pleasantly surprised at the results.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
