Their expectations are totally unrealistic. In this article, I’m going to share three common mistakes that home business owners make that are probably costing them tons of money without them even realizing it. At the very top of my list is mindset. This actually covers several areas but I’ll list it as one mistake or we’ll be here all day. To begin with, as I said, people have expectations that are not at all realistic. They think they’re going to start a business one day and be rolling in dough the next. It doesn’t quite work that way. Building a business takes time…lots of time.

But mindset goes beyond expectations. Many people who start their own business are under the impression that there isn’t much work involved…that they can just push a few buttons and things are going to magically come together. In your dreams. Success takes commitment…lots of it. Also, it takes hours of time. You can’t work at a business a few hours a week and get anywhere with it.

A second mistake that people make is that they do this for all the wrong reasons. Actually, most do it for just one reason…the money. First of all, there are easier ways to make a buck in this world. Secondly, if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you’re not going to succeed at it. One of the reasons why is simple. Eventually, you’ll hate it so much, especially at the beginning when you’re not making any money, that you won’t be able to continue doing it. This is the main reason why people quit.

Finally, they don’t have a plan. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen just toss up a web site with absolutely no idea what they’re doing and no plan at all and they expect to see success. Do you know how many of those people I’ve seen succeed? You got it…none of them. You need a plan. More specifically, you need a business plan. Without one, you are looking for trouble.
