Home Business Tips – A Dose of Negativity is Sometimes a Good Thing
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsYou hear it all the time. There is no room for negativity when running your own business. Well, normally I’d say that’s true. However, there is something that I call a healthy dose of negativity. Maybe it’s really more like a healthy dose of skepticism. Problem is, most people see skeptics as negative individuals. In some cases, yes, they are. But there are some skeptical people, such as myself, who are in no way negative. In this article, I’m going to share with you the few skepticisms that have kept me from making some big mistakes.
At the top of the list is the “Offer too good to be true.” You’ve all seen these. Somebody promises me something that is going to take my home business to the next level. They tell me that by just adding these few daily chores to my already overblown routine I can make zillions of dollars a year…on autopilot no less. Well, forgive me but I have seen all of these claims and none of them have ever lived up to their promises. So whenever you see something like this, you SHOULD be a little skeptical and at least demand to see some substantial and verifiable proof. It will save you a lot of grief down the road.
Another thing I am very skeptical about is web hosting. When a web host says that you get unlimited disk space and bandwidth, I run for the hills. Why? Because there is no such thing as unlimited. We live in a finite world. I don’t care how big the hosting company is. There is only so much disk space they can give you and only so much bandwidth. Granted, the amounts might be quite substantial, but unlimited? Not as long as we live in a finite world. So be wary of claims from web hosts of this nature.
Finally, even though there are a lot more things to be skeptical about, there is the software we use to run our business. Each of us have different needs so there is no way I can go over every piece of software out there, but suffice it to say I use my fair share. I am very wary of a software company that promises lifetime upgrades for free. I have yet to buy any reputable software that will give you free upgrades for life. If you’ve run into one, please let me know. Each one I deal with charges mightily for each upgrade. And this is understandable as these upgrades cost money to come out with. What, you think they just happen out of thin air?
The point is, take everything you read, especially if it sounds too good to be true, with a grain of salt. I have learned from experience that these overblown claims usually have a lot of hot air behind them.
