Today, with the economy being a real nightmare, lots of people want to run their own home business. Maybe you’re one of those people. Well, let me ask you a question. Why are you doing this? Is it just for the money? If it is, you might want to read this article. I think it will be a real eye opener for you.

First of all, let me start out by saying why I started my own home business. I had just lost my job and was at an age where I realized it was going to be hard for me to find another job. I decided that it might be better for me to work for myself…but ONLY because I didn’t feel I had any other options. And therein lies the problem with many people’s decisions.

See, lots of folks start their own home business because they think it’s a ticket to easy riches. They hear all these stories about people doing this and making insane amounts of money in as little as 30 to 60 days. Let me tell you something, and I am speaking from experience…that is just one big fairy tale. A home business take a lot of work and doesn’t turn a profit overnight.

What gets me is that even though, in the real world, a business can take two years or more to turn a profit, people seem to think that if they turn to the Internet they can rake in the bucks in a few days. I wish that were true. But it took me five months to make my first $28. So I can tell you with certainty that it isn’t an easy road to riches.

But the reason why I asked the question I did up top, if you’re doing this for the money, is simple. Believe it or not, there are easier ways to make a living. And, if you have options, something I didn’t really have, you might want to examine those options carefully. Yeah, I know, if you’re working a job you have no real chance to better yourself. Your salary is what it is. But it’s a guarantee for as long as you keep your job. With a home business, there are no guarantees. For people who need money badly, this could turn into a real problem…fast.

We could sit around and debate the pros and cons of a home business versus a job all day long. And don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t go back to working for a boss if my life depended on it. But when I had my last job, one that I loved, I would have never considered working for myself and having to worry about where my next meal was coming from.

Anyway, it’s something to consider. If you’re doing this just for the money, there are easier ways to make a living.
