I ask people from time to time why they want to run their own business from home. I get all kinds of answers. Most of them, however, center around not wanting to work for a boss, being able to set your own hours and not have to work all day long. And yet, so many people end up as slaves to their business because they’re putting in so many hours that they might as well be working for a boss. They certainly have no life outside of their business. Are you one of them?

Don’t get me wrong. When you first start to put your business together, it’s a lot of hard work. I remember what it was like for me when I first started out. I put in some very long hours. And while I still put in a good day’s work, I do so because I want to, not because I have to. I truly enjoy this. I’ve been writing my whole life, many years of it for free, so I don’t see any reason to stop now just because I’m writing for a living.

But what about you? Do you REALLY love what you’re doing? If not, don’t you want to reach a point where you can put your business on autopilot and enjoy the rest of your day? I know that’s what most people want. Well, believe it or not, it is possible. Yes, it’s going to take some hard work at the beginning, but after you get things up and running, you’ll see how easy it can get.

The key is to build a business that has a residual income. This is easily done by creating a membership type business model. In this way, you make the sale once and earn residuals from that sale for months to come, maybe even years. Heck, there are some sites that I belong to for over five years now. Think these guys aren’t doing well with loyal customers like myself?

So think of your business not as a job but as a real business. Plan for the future.

After all, you don’t want to slave for yet another boss, do you?
