Home Business Tips – Are You on the Short End of the Stick?

I am sure you’ve heard the saying, “I got the short end of the stick.” Essentially, what it means is that in some kind of a deal, you got the worst of it. Maybe in a deal where you and a friend split up a baseball card collection, he got all the good players and you got all the utility players. In that case, you got the short end of the stick. Well, as a home business owner, are you getting the short end of the stick? Now, you might be thinking that if you work by yourself, this can’t happen. Not true. This article explains why.

I don’t care what kind of home business you run. You are always dependent on somebody else for some part of your operation, whether it’s web hosting or even just the payment processor who you use to make sales through. In every business there is an interaction between the owner and somebody else. And if you’re not careful, you could get the short end of the stick.

For example. Let’s take your web host. How much money per month are you paying for your web hosting? Whatever amount it is, did you check to see that you can’t get a better deal someplace else? Maybe for the same amount of money, you can get more bandwidth, more disk space and more features. Wouldn’t it be in your best interests to check out all the options before choosing just anybody?

What about your payment processor? Did you check to see what fees you’re being charged for each transaction? Are they the lowest fees possible or is your payment processor getting more money from you than they should be getting? For example, did you know that with PayPal, depending upon how much volume you do, you can actually get a lower fee? Most people don’t even know this and don’t even bother trying to find out.

What about those home business programs where you get a percentage of whatever the monthly fee is? Are you getting your rightful share? Most programs pay a minimum of 50% so anything less than that is absolutely criminal. But why settle for 50%? Did you know that some pay as much as 75% for each sale? If you can get that much, again, why settle?

My point is this. Everybody who you deal with is out to get from you as much as they can. It’s the nature of the beast. Therefore, it is up to YOU to make sure that you don’t get the short end of the stick. And the only way you can do that is by doing your homework.

Trust me…it will be worth it in the end.
