I can name that tune in three notes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that from a friend of mine and then when the time came, he couldn’t name the tune in half a chorus. Everybody thinks they’re such a hot shot until it comes time to face the music. Are you one of those people when it comes to your home business? Are you so sure you’re going to knock this one out of the ball park? Well, let’s REALLY see if you’re up for the challenge.

News flash for you. Running a home business isn’t like eating a bowl of corn flakes. It’s more like eating a bowl of oatmeal laced with land mines. One wrong bite and it’s goodbye molars. Okay, bad joke, I get it. But the point is, running a home business is NOT easy…emphasis on the NOT. A lot of people think it’s going to be a cake walk and then when they find out otherwise, it’s like culture shock.

Those of us who go into this realizing that there is going to be a lot of hard work involved, in my opinion, are better off because they realize it’s going to be a challenge and are therefore more likely to be up for the challenge. It’s really no different from the kid who’s going to face his first major league pitcher. After a career in high school and the minors, where he beat every pitcher silly, he’s now so cocky that he thinks he’s going to take this guy to school…until he’s wearing the Mexican Sombrero after four plate appearances.

But the kid who realizes that this is now the big leagues and who really concentrates against that major league pitcher and tries harder than he’s ever tried before…that kid is going to end up with some successful at bats a lot earlier in his career than the kid who thinks he owns the league. Yeah, some kids are THAT good…but they are few and far between. Most of us “normal” folks have to work hard for our success.

Running a home business is no different.

So, are you up for the challenge? Are you up for the many long hours you will have to put in early on? Are you up for the learning curve of so many things like web design, ad writing, and even customer service? Are you up for the monetary challenge, not just in expenses but in the low income you’re likely to see at the start? Are you up for the ridicule from your family when they tell you that you’re wasting your time?

Yes, running a home business is quite a challenge.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
