Home Business Tips – Avoiding Major Headaches
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsRunning a home business is hard enough without people making it harder for you. In this article, I’m going to share two major problems that I just endured and show you how to at least make it harder for people to make your life as a home business owner a holy hell. I think you’ll want to read this.
Let’s start with major headache number one. Do you have a blog? I do…several of them. Well, one of them was seriously hacked the other day and ended up with a trojan and a couple of viruses. It was a bloody nightmare. Now, in this case, it was partially my fault. See, I use WordPress, which is open source code. So anybody has access to it. Some people use it to exploit weaknesses in it so that they can hack them. The way to prevent that is to make sure you always have the latest version. Well, I didn’t. I was a few versions behind and I paid for it. So let this be lesson number one for you. If you have a WordPress blog and they say there is an update, use it. It will help prevent your blog from getting hacked.
Okay, let’s move onto headache number two. The other day, I had a PayPal sale come in for a $25 product for just 1 cent. That’s right. Somebody hacked the PayPal payment page and paid 1 cent for my product. Now, this is something that you really can’t prevent as the problem is on PayPal’s end. However, the good news is that they didn’t get the product. Why? Well, this is where I DID take preventative measures. I use something called DLGuard. And what DLGuard does is it looks at the price of the item and what the person paid for it. If the price they paid is even 1 cent less than what it should have been, DLGuard will NOT allow the buyer to go to the download page.
These two things are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to stuff that hackers and thieves can do to you. That’s why it’s also important to change your passwords often and never click on links in emails if you’re not sure of where they came from.
Yes, it’s a dangerous world out there, but if you’re careful, you can avoid a lot of problems.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
