Home Business Tips – Balancing Job and Business
Filed under: Home Business, Internet Marketing, Make Money Online; Tagged as: home base business, home based business tips, home business articles, starting a home businessNo CommentsUnfortunately, not everybody who starts as home business has the luxury of being able to tell their boss goodbye. Some people still have to hang onto that 9 to 5 while trying to build their home business…especially at the beginning. So what does one do when there are only so many hours in the day that you can devote to your new money maker? Well, this article is going to give you a few tips that I hope will help. No, it’s not going to be easy, but if you’re determined to make this work, it can be done. Keep reading to find out how.
First thing I’m going to do is assume a few things. Naturally, everybody’s individual case is going to be different. I’m going to assume you work from 9 to 5, leave the house at 8 and come home at 6. I will also assume that you have an 11 PM bedtime. At 6 PM you eat dinner and are done by 6:30. You take 30 minutes to relax from your long day and at 7 PM you’re ready to start working on your business. That gives you a solid 4 hours a night to get something going. Trust me, you can do a lot in 4 hours.
What you need to do, and it’s this simple, is make a schedule for those 4 hours. Write down all the things that you need to get done starting from day number 1. For example, let’s say on the first day you want to get yourself a domain for your business and some hosting. Well, buying a domain takes all of a few minutes. The problem is, it takes about 24 hours, in some cases, for that domain to be propagated to your hosting company, which you’re also going to choose that night. So your first night will really be spent planning more than anything else. Point is, make a schedule and stick to it.
Second tip is to setup a work area that is away from the rest of the family. Even though you’re home, the wife, husband, kids, whoever, need to understand that this is still work time for you and they need to pretend that you’re not there unless it is an absolute emergency. I know this is going to be hard to do. You haven’t seen your family all day and now you’re going to shut yourself off from them for yet another 4 hours. It’s part of the sacrifice that we have to make in order to get our business off the ground.
Finally, be patient. Working part time on your business, it’s going to take longer than if you had an 8 hour day to put in, or more as in my case when I first started. See, I was out of a job so I was lucky. I was able to spend all day on my business. And trust me, I did…14 hours a day. Point is, I didn’t have to. I could have gotten things up and running putting in less time. It can be done. It just takes a lot of discipline.
Eventually, you’ll be able to tell your boss goodbye. And when that day comes, you’ll be glad that you put in the time that you did.
